Interlibrary Loan Questions and Answers

BACK to the ILL Form page

Who is eligible to request material through Interlibrary Loan?

Any student, faculty or staff member of Union or BTSR who lives in the Richmond area may request an Interlibrary Loan.  Those who cannot come to campus (and all other library patrons) should request material through their local public libraries.  Public libraries have access to the same ILL database we use and should be able to provide this service.  If you are an ECP or D.Min. student, please click HERE for further information.

How do I place a request?

ILL services will now be provided in the Instructional Resource Center between the hours of 8:30 – 5 p.m.  Lisa Janes, public services assistant in charge of ILL, will be working in the IRC during those hours and will be glad to help you with your requests.

Requests for material can also be made by contacting Lisa Janes by email or by phone (278-4317), but the easiest and best way for us to handle your request is by using the ILL form in the Morton Library catalog.  That link is now fully operational.  For instructions on doing this, please click HERE.  To go directly to the ILL form, click HERE.

When will my book or article arrive?

Anywhere from 2 days to 3-4 weeks, depending on where it must come from.  We request from the closest locations first, but you need to plan as far ahead as possible.

Where do I pick up and return ILL material?

When your book or article arrives, you will be notified via e-mail.  If it is a book, it will be charged to your account and held for you at the Circulation Desk.  If it is an article, it will be provided to you as a photocopy on paper or in electronic form.

Please return your ILL books to staff at the Circulation Desk.

How long may I keep a book?

Each lending library has its own loan period, but typically it is 3-6 weeks.  If you need to renew an ILL book, you must contact Lisa Janes.  Sometimes the lending library will restrict a loan to NO RENEWALS.  If you are unable to finish within the loan period, please return the book on time, and request that we borrow a second copy from another location.

Are there overdue fines?

Yes, $1 per day will be charged to your library account.  Items overdue 7 days or more will cause your library privileges to be suspended.

Are there other restrictions?

A student may have only 5 loans at any one time.  Some material may be restricted to LIBRARY USE ONLY. Microfilm and microfiche items must be viewed in our library only.  Whole issues or volumes of periodicals cannot be borrowed.
