Summary of Library Privileges for the Union and BTSR Community
Current Students
The access privileges of current BTSR and UPSem students are enumerated in our online Manual. A Library account and access card will be issued to each current student allowing them to pass through the turnstile at the main entrance and to borrow items for their personal use. Current students are also entitled to full remote access to all Morton Library online databases and electronic journals. Each BTSR or Union student is authorized by our proxy server based upon a list of entering students provided by each school. If any student is unsure about his or her network user ID and password, please contact our systems librarian, Leland Deeds, for further information (804-278-4217, or ldeeds@upsem.edu).
Spouses of students may apply for membership free of charge at the Public Member level of privileges (details provided in the Manual).
Alumni and Alumnae
We offer continued library privileges at no charge to BTSR, Union or PSCE graduates who have earned a degree. The Circulation staff depends on a list of alumni/ae provided by the administration of BTSR or Union; only those individuals who are included on these lists will be eligible for Library privileges and will be granted lifetime access (renewable each year). However, borrowing privileges are more limited than those of current students. Alumni/ae borrowing is limited in the number of items that can be checked out and the length of the borrowing period for those items. See the Library Manual for detailed information.
Graduates are eligible to join the ATLAS for Alumni/ae program for remote access to the ATLA Religion Database and the ATLAS online collection of full-text electronic serials. After graduation, alumni/ae no longer have remote access to the other online databases to which we subscribe because of the site licensing agreements for these resources. But they do have full access to those databases whenever they are working in the Library.
Faculty and Staff
Current faculty and staff of BTSR and Union have access to Morton Library. Faculty have special borrowing privileges designed specifically for their needs. Staff have (free of charge) the same privileges as Public Members. For details, see the Manual. The Circulation staff will be able to accord privileges to a staff or faculty member only if that individual is included in rosters provided by BTSR or Union.
Retired faculty and staff who have requested Library access may continue to have it, but without the privilege of using Morton Library's databases remotely. Staff who have left the seminary for other employment are not eligible for continued access to Morton Library.
Renewing Your Privileges
On or before June 30th of each year, all students, faculty and staff of BTSR and Union must update their library accounts at the Circulation Desk in the Library. All Morton Library access cards for entering through the turnstile and checking out materials will automatically expire in June of every year. These cards will be renewed for all those who are currently eligible at their appropriate patron status.
